Sign the petition to protest the power line AS PROPOSED! There are smarter Alternatives. Please sign this petition opposing Allegheny Power and American Electric Power PATH proposal for a 765-kilovolt transmission line across our region. The PATH line is an unnecessary and expensive capital project that negatively affects our homes, our land, and our national energy policy and air quality. Anyone can sign the petition. It applies to all ratepayers, Virginia and non-Virginia residents, local residents and other concerned parties.

Petition Text:

As citizens and friends of the Commonwealth of Virginia we the undersigned reject the PATH 765-kV transmission line proposal put forward by Allegheny Energy, American Electric Power and PJM Interconnection. Real alternatives have not been presented and we will not choose one ill-conceived route over another. We protest this attempt by Allegheny and AEP to tie the east coast inexorably to distant coal-fired generation at a time when our nation should be moving towards energy efficiency, conservation and cleaner, distributed generation.

We ask that the Virginia State Corporation Commission perform an independent analysis of need, taking into account local and regional alternatives, programs to improve energy efficiency and demand management, and the recent state and national decline in demand growth. Further, we ask that the Commission consider the air quality impacts of the generating sources this line will facilitate when performing its environmental review. Finally, we ask that you put the interests of the citizens and ratepayers above the interests of the corporations applying for PATH. We suggest that these corporations invest in a sustainable energy future, not continued fossil-fueled business-as-usual.
